We were all exhausted when we arrived at our hotel and we all took showers and crashed. The rest of my crew is still snoring.
My observations about China so far...
There are people EVERYWHERE! And traffic laws are actually just a suggestion. It seemed like chaos when we were driving to our hotel yesterday, but somehow, they make it all work. They use their horns, A LOT. The people who ride bikes and mopeds, I'm convinced, are the bravest people on earth!
As we got to our room, we look out the window and see a lady bathing her daughter on the sidewalk. We looked a little further over and see a lady washing her hair in a parking lot. It doesn't take long to realize how incredibly spoiled we Americans are. The things that we take for granted arereally sad to me.
Today, we will meet our guide, Helen, at 10:00. We will tour The Forbidden City, which is the smack-dab center of town. (Heidi told us that the city is designed in 6 circles. The first circle is Forbidden City). Then we will eat lunch and go on to do a Hutong Tour (I'm looking forward to this...google it :))
It is H-O-T here. The temperature and humidity is about the same as in Southeast Alabama, but there is NO air movement and the smog and incessant cigarette smoke just make it feel hotter.
We had to remind princess EG that we aren't in America and everybody doesn't keep their AC on 68 all year long ;)
(I do wish I had my little "face fan" here with me, though).
My prayer for the next two days is that we can learn a lot about Sadie's culture that we can share with her and that we can enjoy and soak up our last days as a family of 4! Big, big, wonderful changes are coming for our family.
Here's a few pics from our travels yesterday and one of the view from our hotel room in Beijing. Hopefully many more pics to come soon!
We pulled EG's tooth in the airport in Atlanta :)
